Who are you in the game of Chess?

I am writing this as I sit in Shanghai. It is cold today and the wind really blows through you. I have left behind the warmth of summer in Australia and so the winter winds are quite a climate change for me.

I was reading the local paper and found a most unusual article. It talked about how woman are taking on more senior management roles in China. The article described how a CEO recognised the importance of needing women in his senior management team. He used an analogy which I found particularly interesting. He described how he was playing chess and recognised that he needed a ‘queen’ in his company. The queen he believed was the most powerful piece on the chess board and is the best piece for coordinating and leading battles, because unlike other chess pieces a queen has no restrictions on her movement.
I began to think about the game of chess and what can we glean from the game. I immediately began to think about the pieces on the chess board and whether they can used to draw an analogy to our life. Are you a pawn or the rook or the bishop or the knight? (more…)

Second Life

I stumbled across a phenomenon called “Second Life” this week, some of you may have heard of it already.

Second life is a virtual community, a place you can go online and create your own character. You choose a name, a physical appearance and a personality. In short you create a “second life” and unlike your first life, which is governed by real world contraints (ie: your existing life, existing family, existing job), your second life is a life of choice. Part Time, Ongoing Position - 10hrs a week (evenings)

International Coach Academy is leading the way in the provision of high quality coach training. ICA delivers an internationally accredited coach training program. We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and dynamic person to hold the position of Enrolment Consultant. If you want to tell the world about the benefits of being a coach and joining our school, then this is the opportunity.

The position involves the following:

  • Selling ICA training programs
  • Working as part of a dynamic sales team
  • Using a computer sales database
  • Working in global and virtual community

We are looking for someone based in Australia who has sales and or telephone sales experience, with a high success rate of lead to sales conversion. You must be able to work evenings, be highly self-motivated and be a great communicator. You will work from home and be part of an exciting and supportive virtual team.
